Evelyn had her 12 month check-up today. Her pediatrician said she is doing great :) She weighed 19lbs 4oz, and she is 29 1/4 inches long. Her weight is 10-25%, her height is around 50%, and her head is still close to the 90th percentile. Her Nana Sally is convinced it is because she is going to be extremely smart!!
At what age is it typical to wean children from the bottle? Our pediatrician recommended to be done with the bottle at 15 months... I guess I was a little surprised by that. It is only 2.5 months away. She just seems like such a little peanut still! Oh well --- we will work on slowly transitioning her to the sippy cup I guess...

We had Justin off the bottle at about 1 year. We just stopped him cold turkey and he did not seem to mind at all. He was too young to be able to cry for a bottle, and we just put them all away! It took some trial and error finding a good sippy cup, but we really like the Playtex ones - they have a rubber stopper with 2 plugs (one for the drinking holes and one for the vent). Those seem to be the easiest for him to drink and the most spill proof. Good Luck!
The thought is that drinking from a bottle too long leads to early tooth decay. Being that she doesn't have many (or any?) teeth yet, I wouldn't be too worried. I tried weaning G at a year and she stopped all fluids and hardly peed. We went back to a bottle first thing in the morning and one right before bed for a while, then got rid of the morning bottle, then the night bottle.
The bottle weaning thing really bothers me with doctors. They tell you to get them on a sippy cup, but how is that different than a bottle? A sippy with a stopper works just like a bottle, so it isn't any different as far as the tooth decay thing goes.
Ava stopped hers during the day at about 15 months. But, she took a night time bottle til 29 months, which is probably a little too long. However, I read websites for advice on bottle weaning and there were parents with 4 and 6 year olds who still took bottles. I figure 2.5 wasn't so bad!
I still give Noah one, he needs the milk because some days he doesn't eat much. He'll take a sippy just fine, and doesn't have the attatchment to a bottle that Ava did. I think all kids feel differently about them. I could take Noah's away today and he'd be fine, but it's more convenient for us to give him a bottle than mess with a sippy sometimes.
My advice is to do it when you feel Evelyn is ready. Mom's know these things better than doctors!
Glad to hear the check-up went well. She is so long!!!!
As for the bottle...we already talked about this, but I am with AJ...you will know what is right. Makena is only on a morning bottle and Brynley is still on bottles. I am working on transitioning Brynley to milk from high calorie formula. Once that is done, I will work on the sippy cup with her. I already know she will like it because she loves taking Makena's cups.
I took the boys off a bottle at/by 1 year old and onto a sippy cup... for meals only (milk) and a quick sip (water) while playing. I had them off a sippy cup by age 2 and using a "big boy" cup. Colton completely disliked sippy cups and prefers straws or big boy cups... so I'm done with the weening with him at 1... YEAH!
Good luck figuring out what will work for you and for your little ones.
I had Kobe start feeding himself the bottle and then did the exact same thing as Melissa (cold turkey) at a year. It went very well.
glad the checkup went well
